We stayed in Rothenburg ob der Tauber on the way back, about 4 hours south of Düsseldorf, a pretty town on the ‘Romantic Road’.
Arriving at our hotel in a nearby village we ate out at a very German restaurant in the Rothenburg, and took a little walk around before it got too dark.
Tom even tried to Flammkuchen under protest that there was nothing he wanted; and actually quite enjoyed it. Though Jamie wasn’t too impressed with the evening.
So we decided a proper visit, in the daylight would be better, and planned a trip back the next morning after breakfast.
Rothenburg turned out to be a lovely place, if very busy and full of tourists.
Tom bought some weird pasty thing that I’ve not seen before, a bit like a snowball of pastry covered in Chocolate. We didn’t stay too long, maybe only an hour, taking a few photos before heading on north to Würzburg where we were due to spend our last night.
But on arriving, and eating lunch in the town, we were all pretty tired, and couldn’t face hanging around till the evening so decided we may as well carry on home, despite the hotel booking which I don’t think we could cancel. So headed home anyway, a 3 and half hour drive back through torrential rain. But at least the car was nice to drive, and it got a good first run out. Was nice to be back home, it was a good trip.
